The BMP format starts with a-file head, which includes the file identifier, file size, width, height, data compression method (optional), color options and starting point of the bitmap data. This is followed by the raw pixel images and optional ICC color profile data.
BMP files are not compressed, so they can be large. The d' JPEG and PNG images are therefore common alternatives to the BMP format for saving and transferring digital images.
