What is a ICO File Type?

All icons for executable files in Windows are saved in ICO format. Typically, Windows ICO files store images from 16x16 to 256x256 pixels. Most new icons, however, include images up to and including 256x256 to accommodate screens with higher DPI.

The color 32-bit images are 24-bits with 8 channels-bits for alpha composition.
