What is a MP3 File Type?
With most audio players you can play an MP3 file. You can use Microsoft Windows Media Player, which is integrated into the d' exploitation system, on Windows. In MacOS you can use Apple iTunes, which is included in the d'system.
There are a variety of other commercial and free audio players that offer a variety of playback and conversion functions. Some of these include VideoLAN VLC Media Player, Nullsoft Winamp, Eltima Elmedia Player, Audacity and Adobe Audition.
It was developed in the early 1990s and released in 1993 by MPEG. The format quickly became the norm for storing music since it could compress audio to a fraction of the size of other formats of common audio files (about 1 / 10 the size of d' uncompressed .WAV or .AIF) at the time. This was particularly important due to the limited storage space offered by the hard drives; computer at the time.
Even though the format compressed the audio to formats much smaller than the competing formats, it still provided a sound close to-CD (stereo, 16-bit) quality. The quality of an MP3 file depended (and still depends) largely on the bitrate used for compression. The current speeds are 128, 160, 192, and 256 kbps. Higher bit rates make it possible to obtain files of better quality that also require more disk space.
MP3 technology contributed to a new era of music distribution in the 1990s and 2000s by making it easier and faster for users to download music online. There has been an increase in music piracy through sites such as Napster, as well as online music stores such as Apple iTunes and Rhapsody. Users could play MP3 files with an audio player on their computer, burn MP3 files to audio CDs that could be played on a CD player, or transfer them to a portable music player, such as an Apple iPod or a Sony Walkman device.
Today MP3 files are still used; hui for online audio distribution, such as songs and narrations. Since then, however, other more efficient audio compression formats have been introduced and adopted by online music stores and audio players.
