What is a GDOC File Type?
Google Drive is a file storage service that also includes programs Docs, Sheets and Slides. It can be downloaded and installed in Windows or MacOS as a desktop client to synchronize remote Google Drive files with a computer. If you install the Google Drive desktop, your Google Docs documents are available in a special folder called Google Drive, which is located on the local hard drive. This directory is used to synchronize files with the remote Google Drive. When you double-click on a GDOC file, the document is opened in Google Drive in your default web browser.
Just as the .DOCX files are associated with Microsoft Word, the GDOC files are associated with Google Docs. The Google Docs interface appears similar to Microsoft Word with a d'bar; tools that allow you to change the font, size, spacing and alignment. It also includes word counting, translation, voice recording and dictionary functions.
Google Drive desktop applications have been discontinued in 2018, but you can still access Google Drive online.
