What is a RM File Type?
The RM media is streamed at a constant rate, which means that the rate stays the same during the stream. This is not optimal when more complex segments of environmental data are released since the rate of data transfer remains constant. RealNetworks has replaced the RM format with the RealMedia Variable Bitrate (RMVB) format, which streams media at a variable bit rate, allowing the transfer of data at different speeds. This is useful in situations where transfer needs to be increased for more complex segments of multimedia files.
RM files that only store audio and l'can be saved as RealAudio .RA files. RM files that store audio and video, or only video, can also be saved as RealVideo .RV files.
RM files may contain a URL link to a streaming multimedia file instead of the audio or video data. These RM files are read as they are downloaded.
Generally, users play RM media files with RealPlayer software, but they can also open them with a variety of other audio programs, such as Eltima Elmedia Player or GRETECH GOM Player. VideoLAN VLC Media Player can be used to play RM files but the software only provides a partial support of the format. You can also transfer RM files to RCA MP3 players to play them.
Many programs convert RM media files into d' other more common formats. Some features include Applian Replay Converter and Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate. Mac Video Converter Ultimate can be used in MacOS.
