What is a MOV File Type?
The MOV files can contain video, audio, timecode and text tracks, which can be used to store and synchronize different types of media. Each media track can be encoded with help from one of the different codecs. An application must be able to recognize the specific codec (s) used in the file to read a MOV file.
With different multimedia applications, you can convert MOV files into more standard multimedia file formats. The VLC media player, for example, allows you to convert a MOV video file to .MP4 or a MOV audio file to .OGG format.
The MOV and MP4 files are similar and can be read by QuickTime. MP4 files, however, are recognized as an international standard and are more widely supported than MOV files.
