What is a MKV File Type?
The Matroska multimedia container format is open source and was first published in December 2002. It is similar to .AVI, .ASF and .MOV and can contain n' any number of tracks video, audio, image and under @-@title. Multimedia files that use the Matroska container format and store one or more tracks are known as video files Matroska, and are distinguished by l' extension of .mkv file.
Although often used to store short video clips, TV shows and movies, the MKV format has become popular in the d'fan community; anime-subbing. Many of these users create sub-titles and the format MKV is particularly useful since it supports several audio tracks and titled-in the same file.
The name Matroska comes from the Russian Matryoshka doll, which contains many little nested dolls of the same shape.
