What is a HEIC File Type?
Also known as H.265, HEIF has become a popular storage format for digital photos because it allows you to create images with a smaller file while maintaining or improving the quality of l' image on JPEG. When Apple launched iOS 11 and High Sierra in 2017, format became the standard for storing photos on iOS devices. Android 9 also introduced native support for HEIF images.
Apple introduced native support for HEIF with High Sierra (macOS 10.13) for the first time. Microsoft also introduced support with the release of Windows 10,1803 in April 2018 as long as extensions of the HEIF Microsoft images are installed. There are several software applications that also support the visualization and conversion of HEIC images, including File Viewer Plus for Windows, which can both visualize and convert HEIC images, and iMazing HEIC Converter for macOS.
If you use an iPhone and share a HEIC image with a user not-iOS or a social media site l'can be automatically converted to JPEG so that it is compatible with the platform-target form. If you do not want this behavior, or if you want to continue using JPEG to save images rather than HEIF to iOS, open the file Settings " app in iOS, select Camera → Formats → Most Compatible, and choose Most Compatible.
Some digital cameras also record images in HEIC format.
