What is a YKCOL File Type?
The Locky virus is dangerous malware. This is what is commonly called ransomware, where the purpose of the virus is to take your files hostage and force you to pay the author (usually by bitcoin) to unlock your files.
The virus is commonly introduced via invoice status spam with an attachment .7Z, which is a compressed .VBS file with 7-Zip compression. If you download and decompress the 7Z file, the VBS file is launched and the virus starts scrambling your files, renaming them with the .ykcol " extension, and encrypting them. The virus generates a ransom note .BMP (ykcol.bmp) or .HTM (ykcol.htm) informing you about the takeover and what you need to do to get your files back.
Unfortunately there is currently no program to effectively restore your files. If you save your files you can perform a complete restoration of the system. Otherwise the only known way to decrypt your infected files is to pay the author for the private key and decrypt the program.
