What is a GMK File Type?

The GMK files contain written source code in GameMaker (GML) language. It can be auto-populated using-drag actions drop-and-or manually coded by the developer. Those files that contain only GameMaker source code may have a .GML extension.

Both GameMaker 7 (GM7) and GameMaker 8 (GM8) save project files with a .gmk extension. The file formats generated by each release, however, are slightly different. GM8 is back-compatible with registered GM7 GMK files, but registered GM8 GMK files cannot be opened with GM7. GameMaker 6 saved project files with extension .GM6.
