What is a CRYPT1 File Type?
UltraCrypter is a type of malware used by cybercriminals that hijacks your files and forces you to pay the author to unlock your files. It can be inserted into your computer using an executable file disguised as another type of file. Usually this is done through malicious ads on compromised websites or spam with attached files disguised as d' other files.
When the program executes on your computer, it encrypts and renames the standard files that are important to you with a .crypt1 extension. It usually consists of documents, images, videos and backup files, such as .PDF, .JPG and .DB files. An example.jpg file becomes example.jpg.crypt1. The virus changes the background of the desktop screen then generates a ransom note .HTML informing you of the takeover and what to do to recover your files, which is typically a payment via Bitcoin.
The CRYPT1 files became dominant in May 2016 and are similar to .CRYPT files. There are currently no programs available to efficiently restore your files. If you have a backup of your files, you can perform a system restore.
