What is a BSP File Type?
Binary Space Partitioning, quot, which is a technique that breaks down complex polygons into convex sets. Makes it possible to render 3D cards faster. The BSP files consist of lumps, which are pieces of data defined in the map; in-head of the file. These include entities, nodes, vertex, plans, sheets, visibility, faces and textiles.
BSP is compiled in a binary format. It can be compiled from .MAP files using tools such as Q3Map2 and Irrlicht. It can also be created with the help of idyllic software such as GtkRadiant and DarkRadiant.
Since the BSP files are compiled from map editors' projects, they are not usually modified directly. Some BSP decompilators such as Q3Map2, EntSpy, Vmex and BSP2MAP exist, but they do not usually decompile correctly BSP files.
Those using BSP files include id Tech 1 (Doom Engine), Quake Engine (original Quake Engine), id Tech 2 (Quake II Engine), id Tech 3 (originally used for Quake III Arena) and id Tech 4.
Since Valve is from the Quake engine, it also uses BSP files for the cards. It has been used to develop games such as Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2.
