What is a ADAME File Type?
Adame is a type of malware used by cybercriminals that takes a user hostage and forces him to pay the author to unlock the files. It is most often introduced into the computer of a victim via spam accompanied by malicious files that contain macros and are downloaded and executed by unsuspecting users. It can also be introduced when a user clicks on malicious online ads or downloads malicious files from torrent websites.
When the software executes on the appos, a user encrypts the files on the appos; computer and adds the appos; extension .adame to the names of the files. Typical target files are documents, images, videos and backup files, such as .PDF, .PNG, .MP4 and .DB. An image.png file, for example, becomes image.png.adame.
The virus generates a file info.hta and info.txt on the desktop of l' user. The info.hta file contains an HTML program that displays a pop @-@up explaining the hostile takeover of the user' s files. The plain text version of the HTML program is the info.txt file. The information contained in the two files includes an explanation of what is happening on the computer, the encryption used on the files and how the user can recover his files by paying a ransom.
There are several options to remove the Adame virus, which includes the Malwarebytes Premium software. There is, however, no program to effectively restore infected files. If the user has a recent backup of his files, he can restore the system to remove the virus, but any changes made to the files after the backup will be lost.
