What is a JPS File Type?

The JPS format is designed to create large directory archives using PHP code only. JPS is similar to .JPA but more secure. The JPS format divides the file descriptor and data into 64 KB encrypted blocks using AES-128 in CBC mode. The format also uses Deflate (ZLib) to compress all files.

JPS extension can be used for multi-part Akeeba backup archives. If a website is split into several files, a JPA file and a .J01 file will be created with a JPS file created as the last file in the multi-part set.
