What is a DEL File Type?
The DEL files store the cell values, which consist of ASCII characters, organized into one or more lines separated by line breaks. In each row, each cell is separated by a column delimiter. Default column and line delimiters can be overridden by the user if d' other characters are preferable.
Here is an example of how data is stored, by default, in a DEL file:
It's a long way to go, and it's a long way to go, and it's a long way to go.
Since the DEL files are stored in plain text, they can be opened with n' any text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad or Apple TextEdit. You can open files with spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel and Apache Calc (include with OpenOffice) as well.
