What is a CRYPT12 File Type?
This extension is added to a .DB file to create a .DB.CRYPT12, which is an encrypted database that WhatsApp uses to save messages from' a user. Throughout the existence of WhatsApp, the application used different algorithms to encrypt users. Users of WhatsApp can find .CRYPT7, .CRYPT8, .CRYPT10 or .crypt12, all of which are backups of encrypted messages.
If you want to decrypt a CRYPT12 database and see the history of the messages it contains, you must first find your WhatsApp key file, which stores your CRYPT12 file; encryption key. Your key file is stored in the following location: / data / data / com.whatsapp / files / key.
The CRYPT12 database files are located on the Android Device SD Card with WhatsApp Messenger installed. Find your CRYPT12 file (or any other encrypted WhatsApp database file) in the following directory: / sdcard / WhatsApp / Databases.
You can find several CRYPT12 database files in the database folder with the dates AAAA-MM-JJ included in their filenames. WhatsApp periodically creates new backup files; the dates in these files represent when the file names were created.
Most of these dated backup files can be deleted to free space on your SD card without affecting your WhatsApp messages. You should, however, always keep one or two CRYPT12 files with the most recent date, in case you need to restore your WhatsApp message history.
Only the Android version of WhatsApp Messenger creates CRYPT12 files. CRYPT12 files are not created in the iOS and OA versions of WhatsApp messenger.
