What is a CRD File Type?
Windows CardSpace cards allow users to have a virtual ID for s'and to register securely on the websites. More than one Web site can be accessed using a single card. When sending a card to a Web site, personal information is not sent unless explicitly authorized by the user. Instead only the digital signature is sent to identify the user.
CardSpace can be issued by a managed card provider, such as a company or organization. These are called d'card files; information managed. They are used by companies to authenticate and validate entities within the company.
The CRD files are only usable by online web sites and other entities that support Windows CardSpace cards.
Before Windows 95, the CRD files were also used by older versions of Windows. They are in a different format from the modern CRD files, but can still be opened by the AZZ Cardfile program.
